Environmental Services Management

Cleanliness That Protects and Impresses

Environmental Services (EVS) is the first line of defense in shaping a facility’s impression—and in protecting its reputation. More importantly, EVS plays a critical role in infection control, helping prevent healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs) that can threaten patient safety and organizational stability.

Infection Control Starts with EVS

In partnership with clinical departments and infection control teams, EVS combats surface and airborne pathogens through:

  • Regular, targeted cleaning and disinfection
  • Use of state-of-the-art chemicals, equipment, and procedures
  • Coordination with clinical schedules to minimize disruption
  • Courteous, professional interactions with patients during cleaning

EVS staff often interact more with patients than any other department, making their role vital to the overall care experience.

Beyond Patient Rooms

Inpatient areas typically occupy less than half of a facility’s square footage. EVS responsibilities extend to:

  • Specialty clinical zones
  • Medical offices and ancillary departments
  • Surgical suites and mechanical areas
  • Public and administrative spaces

Each area requires tailored procedures. For example, terminal cleaning of a surgical suite differs significantly from office cleaning. Surface-specific tasks like floor finishing are performed throughout the facility.
